Urlpaatja (Parrot) is there too he lives in holes in the trees at night time. Ulpaatja Kara marra (parrot is good meat)! The little ones we likel Perentie is there too.. Kara marra again! you can see the kwaarra (little girl) satnding on puta (rock), watching the perentie and ulpaatja. Pmurlpa (Quandong) marna marra (good food)! They are all falling on the ground. You can see arrkutja picking them up. We pick them up and put into the coolemon to take back to pmere (home).

This is at Ntjartnama (my outstation) where I went hunting for Ngurrlpa (pitchery/ bush tobbacco) and I ran into these birds. Plus I was looking for parkillya (wild flower) to make a little flower garden for me. They are the purple little flowers with white in the middle. That’s how I ran into these birds. I came back the next day and I started drawing and painting what I see.

While Splendid Fairy-wrens stand out brilliantly from the regular browns and blacks of many backyard birds, they’re quite shy and tricky to spot. As they venture out of their homes for food, they move very quickly. You can spot them zipping out of the canopy like little rockets. When foraging on the ground, they quickly hop in large bounds. You can often spot members of these flocks roosting on a tree branch and nestled up together. They also preen each other.

These little yellow birds live all around this country.

Whole lot family going for swimming. We all going. Some going for withcety grub, some going for swimming. We going in Toyotas. It was a cloudy day and it was weekend. We just going for the day, not sleep. Me and my partner watching Layla and Dean and Dean’s friends swimming. Josie and Netty, they went for witchetty grubs with other families. Karen mob is cooking kangaroo tail.

We call them rraatninga (bush Passion fruit) and this one is bush tomato, we call them katjirra. And this one is kupaarta (bush plum).

Bush pigeon, dry time, they looking for water. And two emu. Looking for kwatja (water)

We always go for hunt bush tobacco. Running out of bush tobacco we look for it. I can’t stay without bush tobacco. I cant chew the smoke without it, I get sick. I ask my niece to go on the weekend every weekend to look for bush tobacco. Its good to chew it.

This is desert flower, we see it in the bush, down the creek, between the river and the creek. So the butterlies are connected to the flower, they fly around where the flower is. Down the bottom, these little yellow flowers, we call them tjinta-tjinta . We used to get that tjinta-tjinta and put it here, in our hair. Long time, when I was a little girl. We got errawarlkara, cockateil up on top and we got the pink ones, elintja there too. Urrlpatja (green parrot) also spending time there. They all eating seeds, like pattimelon melon seeds, at the dry time when theres no water. They looking for pattimelon seeds. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 15 x 10cm)

This is Boggy Hole ducks, where we grew us seen many ducks as a child. But now we grown up theres hardly any kind of ducks or birds around anymore. Wes used to have those long penguins, the white ones with the long legs and big beak, there used to be heaps of them there but now nothing, Boggy Hole and Running Waters. The history of the native things that we used to see, it&rsquo;s not there anymore, like the native birds. The waters drying up, they leaving. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 13 x 8cm)

When we went camping to Boggy Hole or many Outstations we was always wary about the snakes around us. Cos theres no clinic nearby, if we stuck out bush theres no emergency service or no phone. Theres a lot of snakes around us and elders used to teach up not to play with snakes or be wary around snakes when we camping. It was like camogflague that we can&rsquo;t see the snakes and weren&rsquo;t allowed certain areas for snakes. Places like Kings Canyon there, you can&rsquo;t really see them, things like King Brown, hey (Terracotta and Underglazes, 13 x 7cm)

I paint this one other side Glen Helen. With black birds flying, like at dry time, you know. A bit of salt here. My Dad make waterbag from Mulga tree for drinking kwatja, when he&rsquo;d go walking round looking for goanna. He used to go looking for goanna, hunting. And he used to go for cut them trees, mulga trees to make music sticks. Boomerang, used to go cut boomerang. And for spear and spear thrower. Tuakitja (babbler) what they eating? Any sweet thing. Flower, grass. All the bird always eat flower. <p>I'm famous for making <em>thepa mapa</em> (bird mob). I always make on pot. Any bird, I make 'em, because all these bird nice colour.&nbsp;</p> (Terracotta and Underglazes, 18 x 9cm )

This is going towards Palm Valley swimming, fishing and camping. Seeing ducks and other animals around us, we see camels sometimes, wild horses, donkeys now and then. Mainly wild horses, but not as much as kintore side. We just love fresh water swimming cos we can see right through the water, not like the sea! Palm valley water and Bogey Hole water are very clear. Going in to Bogey Hole, you know when you pass all the house. All the empty houses, and you go through to Bogey hole. And theres four cars. We are at the front and there&rsquo;s three cars behind us. We are going the night, like sleepover. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 12 x 8cm)

I&rsquo;ve drawn the butterfly because growing up we used to see certain butterflies on certain places. It&rsquo;s very rare to see butterflies. Growing up as a child, I don&rsquo;t know, it was something. Like someone&rsquo;s hanging around you in a good way, a spiritual way. Butterfly feels like a little spirit. Every time I see butterflies I think &ldquo;oh, that&rsquo;s out of the blue&rdquo; you know. And different colours, different shapes. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 15 x 10cm)

We always see emu in the bush. They always run. Sometimes people shoot them and cook them and eat them. We sometimes see them sandhill side, coming in two. Husband and wife. And sometimes they have a little emu with them. The father one looks after that baby. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 14 x 8cm)

We used to come to school on the horse. My cousin sister used to bring us, Verna Pareroultja. About 6.30 in the morning, before sun we used to come. From 8 Mile to Hermannsburg. I used to get scared. I would jump off the horse to the tree. Because there were cheeky bullocks around. they used to chase the horses and get cheeky. Some kids walking. Because this horse here was my private horse. And it was a racehorse. First racehorse in Hermannsburg. Was from Melbourne. I used to call him Pie Pony. On the lid, this one here, my sister riding it, that horse is called P-Horse. My aunty gave it to me, Mrs Meneri, she been give me this horse here. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 18 x 13cm)

This is Running Waters, when we used to go fishing there with all the families, through Palm Valley way as well. Just mainly fishing, cooking, sitting at the fire site at night, listening to the owls. The owls used to make us scared so we&rsquo;d go to bed early. Mostly we enjoyed making fire as kids, but we was very careful and our elders would tell us not to play with the fire. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 14 x 8)

When we used to be small when we travelled to Running Waters, there was a lot of nice yellow flowers growing up near the hills. It was beautiful to experience swimming at Bogey Hole and Running Waters. There&rsquo;s not as much water there now. Many years ago we had heaps of water holes to swim in constantly. This one is Lutheran Church here in Ntaria. Every Sunday we used to go to church with our grandmother and with my mum and dad, all my uncles and aunties and all the little cousins to hear the service and play outside in the yard. Running around on the grasses. We always feel happy getting together with all the other children and other families. Sunday afternoon we go swimming and getting bush tucker. This one is little owl on the hollow tree. When we drive past one of the kids saw the little owl in the hollow tree and thought it was just a tree, but it was really tiny, grey one. It was inside the hollow tree but it sticked out its head, only the eyes we saw, yellow one. This tree is Tjuwanpa (Terracotta and Underglazes, 17 x 9cm)

Me and my little family we went for yirrampa (honey ants) at wood yard near Alkngarintja Outstation and we were digging for yirrampa when it was after the rain. Yirrampa was a little bit high on the ground and easy to dig. All the little kids they love it, they was sucking on the honey ant. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 10 x 9cm)

This one is landscape over at Palm Valley there somewhere, with those red rocks and those different trees. You know those trees up at Palm Valley, the palm trees, that&rsquo;s them there. And this yellow is all the flowers, tjinti-tjinti, you see them from the road. You can see them from distance, it&rsquo;s really yellow. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 16 x 13cm)

Rraatninga (bush passionfruit or capparis spinosa) is found around Hermannsburg, and source of local bush tucker. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 13cm x 14cm)

We call ilpatjina 'long ears.' The word for 'ear' is 'ilpa' and donkeys are referred to as 'long ears' or ilpatjina. They came here with white people. There are lots over Areyonga way. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 16x25cm)

See that gum tree there, that's Para (river red gum). You know para, the one with the honey, the sugar - that's paraltja (sugar deposit made by lerp from river red gum). That's where Pareroultja's come from. That landscape is Macdonnel ranges there, somewhere over there. And water a little bit there. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 25 x 12cm)

Thepa kwatja rinya are usually found around Glen Helen way, at two mile, a permanent spring. There are two pelicans living there. People say they flew up from Lake Eyre, home of the Arabana people. They've been there for as long as I remember. (Terracotta and Underglazes, 16 x 9cm)
